Guten Tag, y’all!

It’s December! How in the world did that happen so fast? There’s a LOT I’m looking forward to this month–a visit from my mother, going to the German Christmas markets, family dinners…I can’t wait! In the meantime, here’s what’s going on in my life, currently…

Loving: Christmastime in Germany. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again–Germans know how to do Christmas! The huge Christmas markets are nothing short of magnificent, and even the smaller ones have a bit of magic to them. I’m looking forward to checking out the Wienachtsmarkts in Hannover and here at Wolfsburg’s Autostadt in the next few weeks.

Reading: I’m reading (or, more accurately, re-reading) Paulo Coelho’s Eleven Minutes. I’ll forever see myself as the country mouse who went to the big city, and this story of a Brazilian girl in Geneva captures that feeling perfectly, albeit with a very adult twist.

Watching: There are some really good series online these days, and I find myself turning to YouTube more and more for entertainment. Right now, I’m very into Roomie Lover Friends, Garance Dore’s Pardon My French, and all of the shows on the WIGS channel.

Thinking about: Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about being beholden to other people’s opinions. When I was in 6th grade, I had an IEP meeting with my teacher in which she told me that I need to be more assertive, and she was right. One thing to know about being assertive: when people who aren’t assertive are faced with negative situations, they tend to react either too aggressively or too passively (I, of course, am the latter). “And if being assertive does not come naturally, it can feel like being between a rock and a hard place, or what has been bluntly described as ‘a middle ground between being a bully and a doormat’…” So that’s what I’ve been working on lately, mentally. This awesome article on Black Girl Nerds his been quite inspiring in this regard.

Listening to: Last week, I bought Solange Knowles’ new EP, True, and I haven’t stopped playing it since. The only bad thing I can say about it is that I wish it was longer.

Working on: A new project that will kick off in in January, that I’ll be super excited to share with y’all! I’m also writing a story for my friends’ kids; it’s a lot of fun. :)

Wishing: For a snowy Christmas. :)
